About the class
In the adults’ class I focus on movement that teaches you to work with your own anatomy and allow gravity and momentum to create flow through the body.

For teenagers* I want to give a chance for their creativity to shine and to open self-expression with the body. To gain more physical skills such as balance, mobility and body control, we begin with movement patterns that come from modern dance techniques. Then we move into the task-based improvisation work. I give guidance on a particular movement idea or objective to explore, for example a body part, an energy or shape to play with, and then we build from the improvisation into short choreographies.
*Teenagers should be over the age of 11.

The purpose of the class is to increase your body awareness and mobility within a dance framework. You may find some challenges to your sense of coordination and direction in space as we move in different planes, travelling across the floor and turning in space. I always emphasize the importance of breath as a natural driver towards easier, healthier movement.
About the teacher
My name is Eloïse and I have spent much of my life dancing! I trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds, UK, graduating in 2012.

Following that, I took part in projects and courses all over the world, exploring my interests in dance for health and self-expression. Sometimes teaching dance classes was part of my journeys too.

In my work-life I am an educator and most recently I have been teaching languages. I have experience working with young people as well as adults in a variety of educational contexts and what I find interesting is to facilitate each individual’s learning in their own unique way.

The Contemporary Dance class at the Centro is a small welcoming class for everyone to drop deeply into their body with exercises to tune in to the most basic aspects of having a body; breath, weight, balance and momentum.
The soft floor allows for so many delicious and challenging movements to just happen without too much thinking or effort. A real journey of embodied self-discovery.

I enjoyed the contemporary dance class with eloise a lot. Love, that it s free of choreography. And the open and calm way how Eloise guides. Wish, i could come more often.
